Research at the Digital Design Center strives to connect new technologies with existing methods and conventions in practice and academia.

Digital Fabrication
addresses issues of the integration of computer controlled machines into the design and construction process, with an emphasis on mass customization.

Interactive Architecture studies methods by which computers can be embedded into physical environments at all scales from individual objects to cities.

Visualization focuses on the presentation of information in visual forms that optimize desicion making ability.

Our fields of interest cross boundaries within the arts and sciences. We actively seek out new partnerships in architectural practice, in academic research, and with civic & cultural organizations.

For each research project, a team of professors, staff and advanced students is assembled to match the necessary skills and methods and to collaborate with our clients. This research takes full advantage of the advanced computing, software and digital fabrication facilities at the CoA.

The scale of research ranges from small, short-term investigations to large multi-year grants. For more information or to discuss a research collaboration, contact Professor Eric Sauda at 704.687.4029 or
