Planning Award
Professor David Walters receives Outstanding Planning Award

Professor David Walters and his design team have been awarded an Outstanding Planning Award by the NC Chapter of the American Planning Association for The Mountain Landscapes Initiative, a community-funded planning and design effort to create environmentally responsible design and development practices across seven counties and sixteen municipalities in western North Carolina.  The project was carried out by a multi-disciplinary team of architects, planners, urban designers, landscape architects, environmental engineers and lawyers, led by members of the Lawrence Group, including Professor David Walters as lead urban designer.  The project used design charrettes to create proposals and policies for key and prototypical sites throughout the region, from which was developed an extensive “toolbox” of policies, economic development strategies, design guidelines and draft regulations that can be tailored and implemented by specific municipalities according to their particular needs.
