I need Help! What do I do?
Written by Matt Parker
For help with your Macintosh... the first place to check is
the Help menu on your Mac. There is a plethora of information just a click
away. Information is available about networking issues, printing, dock preferences,
applications, etc. If you look there and still need help you might try looking
on line at one of the sites listed in our IT Links area. Most common problems
are easy to fix if you do just a brief look on these sites. Some assistance
is available from the CoA IT staff but they have many duties and there may
be a considerable time delay before assistance is available.

I am unable to login in the SoA computer labs?
Written by Matt Parker
All SoA students should have userids for the SoA fileserver (soa-fs.uncc.edu).
If you registered for classes late you may not have been in the database
before the accounts were generated. Please submit a new user account request through the CoAA Help Desk to gain access to your server space.

I am unable to connect to the Internet with my computer in SoA studio. What is wrong?
Written by Matt Parker
In order to connect
to the Internet from your computer in studio, you must be registered
with UNCC Network Services. You can connect through an ethernet cable or wirelessly through the UNCC49er wireless network.
Once connected you will need to open an internet browser window, upon opening a browser you should be asked to register your
computer. This registration is good for as long as you are browsing or using the network. If you don't use the network for one hour you will be required to re-register.
If you are still unable to get connected to the Internet, submit a help desk ticket at coaa.uncc.edu/support and we'll help figure out what the issue is.

Written by Matt Parker
The first place to check is the Help menu in the application.
Most applications now have extensive Help available in the application or
at their site online. If you look in Help and are still unable to resolve
the problem you should contact Chris Tangora,
in Storrs 222, only if the application is architecture related.Read more...0% of 0 voters found this FAQ useful, I found this FAQ

I am having hardware problems with my Mac. What are my options for repair?
Written by Matt Parker
Some hardware issues can be resolved easily by searching Apple's
Support page or by contacting Apple Computer at:
1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273)
If your Mac is less than a year old it should be covered under
Apple's standard warranty. If it is more than a year old it may still be covered
if you purchased AppleCare extended warranty. AppleCare covers your computer
for 3 full years and this warranty is highly recommended.
The COA IT staff may assist with some repairs and memory installations,
as time permits. However, we do not have a full-service shop with
certified technicians. For these types of repairs we recommend
contacting Apple at their Charlotte store in the South Park Mall at
704-364-2205.

I am having problems opening applications and/or saving files on the CoA file server. What's wrong?
Written by Matt Parker
The problem may stem from disk quotas. The current disk quota
allows each SoA student to store a total of 2GB of data on the file server.
Once your disk usage reaches about 90% capacity you may notice some anamolies
or problems. Any student whose account space usage exceeds this quota will
not be able to save any files (or launch some of the applications which need
to save cache, etc.) until their space usage is in compliance with the quota.
Keep in mind that the student server space is basically a temporary "holding"
area and not meant to be students sole storage. Students need to provide
long term storage - either on DVDs, their own computer or hard drive,
etc.
To determine your disk usage on the server:
From the Finder window:
Click on your Home folder
Click File/GetInfo (or Command-I)
Students with questions or with special (justifiable) needs
for additional disk space, they should contact Chris Tangora (Storrs 222).
